The Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is for international students who want to relocate to the United States for their studies. SEVIS helps program sponsors and institutions to transfer event notification and mandatory information to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and DOS throughout a student or exchange visitor’s stay in the country.
Payment of the SEVIS fee is compulsory for all international students. Without the SEVIS payment receipt, you cannot attend your visa interview. You pay the fee after you receive your I-20 or DS-2019 form. However, students from Kenya, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Ghana cannot use credit card payments.
The affected countries make use of the Pay4Me app, money order, or Western Union transfer. Students must pay the fee at least three days before their visa interviews. SEVIS Payment is valid for a maximum of 12 months.
Key information about the applicant is needed, which includes address, passport number, and information from the I-20 or DS-2019 form.
Can I Make Payment Online From Nigeria?
Yes! While citizens of Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Gambia, and Cameroon cannot make use of the online payment method, we got a solution for you. Pay4Me app is a borderless, seamless payment platform that handles international students' travel-related fees, visa fees, SEVIS, and WES payments.
Steps to Making SEVIS Payment
1. Complete the online form (I-901) correctly.
2. Enter your name as it appears on your I-20 or DS-2019.
3. Enter your SEVIS ID number on your I-20 or DS-2019
Pay4Me
To get started with the app, you can download the Pay4Me app on the Google Play Store or iOS App Store. The five African countries listed above can make use of this app for the payment of their SEVIS fee.
To pay for the SEVIS fee on the app, you should do the following:
1) Click on Make Payments after filling in your information
2) Click on I-901 SEVIS Fee
3) Select your destination currency
4) Enter the transaction amount
5) Confirm and Proceed
6) Make your Payment
7) Print a Receipt
8) Print the online receipt after payment.
You need to present the receipt at your visa interview and the U.S. Port of entry. Students can request corrections if they notice misspellings on their I-901 SEVIS Fee. The process could take a considerable amount of time due to the high volume of fee transfers and change requests.
Candidates should apply a minimum of two weeks before their visa interview.
The SEVIS ID on your payment confirmation receipt should match the SEVIS ID on your current F-1 I-20 or J-1 DS-2019. Students should keep extra copies of this payment confirmation receipt throughout their stay in the United States
