When to Apply for Swedish Universities

Swedish universities generally have two application rounds:

  • Autumn Semester (August - January) – Main intake
  • Spring Semester (January - June) – Limited programs available

Requirements for Undergraduate Application

  • International Passport
  • High school diploma (equivalent to Swedish gymnasium)
  • Official high school transcripts
  • Proof of English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo, etc.)
  • Statement of Purpose (Motivation Letter)
  • Letters of Recommendation (if required by the university)
  • Any other relevant documents requested by the university

Requirements for Master's/Postgraduate Application

  • International Passport
  • Bachelor’s degree certificate and transcripts
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Proof of English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Duolingo, etc.)
  • Statement of Purpose (Motivation Letter)
  • Letters of Recommendation (Academic and/or Professional)
  • Any other relevant documents requested by the university

Tuition Fees & Cost of Living

  • Tuition Fees:

 €8,000 – €25,000 per year (varies by university and program)

  • Living Costs:

Approx. €800 – €1,400 per month, covering accommodation, food, transport, and other expenses

Work & Post-Study Opportunities

  1. International students can work while studying without hours restrictions.
  2. After graduation, students can apply for a 6-month job-seeking visa to find employment.
  3. Graduates who secure a job can apply for a work permit, leading to permanent residence.

Sweden Student Visa Requirements

  • Admission letter from a recognized Swedish university
  • Proof of tuition fee payment or funding
  • Paid Application fee
  • Proof of sufficient financial means (at least €1,020 per month for 12 months)
  • Health insurance (if applicable)
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Completed visa application form
  • Valid international passport
  • Recent passport-sized photographs

  • Any additional documents requested by the Swedish Migration Agency

How to Apply for a Sweden Student Visa

  1. Apply for admission to a Swedish university and receive an admission letter.

  3. Gather the required documents and apply for a residence permit online via the Swedish Migration Agency website.
  4. Attend a biometric appointment at a Swedish embassy or consulate.
  5. Receive the residence permit card and travel to Sweden.
