Application Deadlines at Hungary Universities

The deadline for the first round of admission procedures is usually in November for the February intake, while the admission procedures are in February for the September intake.

Application process 

International students can submit their applications by mailing their documents directly to the institution or electronically through the FELVI system.

  • Wait to receive confirmation from the university.

Hungary Academic year 

The academic year is divided into 2 semesters, each consisting of 14-15 weeks of lectures and seminars, followed by a 6-8 week examination period.

Documents Required:

  • A transcript of high school or Bachelor’s degree

  • International passport 

  • CV

  • Testing scores

  • Evidence of scholarship or funding

  • Letters of recommendation (2 or 3)

  • Portfolio and/or writing samples

Hungarian Universities English Test

International students will most likely take a university entrance exam to study in Hungary, especially if they study in fields like math, science, technology, or engineering. In addition, they need to prove their language skills by taking any of these English-language tests:

  • PTE Academic

  • TOEFL IBT

  • IELTS Academic

  • C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency

Work after graduation in Hungary

International students need a work permit to get full-time jobs in Hungary after graduation. The work permit allows students to work in Hungary for as long as the work contract is valid. In addition, a residence permit for work purposes is needed for work part-time in Hungary.

Upon arrival in Hungary, international students may need to apply for a residence permit within 30 days. The university facilitates this process, which involves a separate fee.

How to Apply for Hungary Visa

Once international students are accepted to any Hungarian university, they should apply for their study visas, known as D-type visas. The visa application process can take up to two months, and you may attend an interview at the embassy.

  • Valid passport 

  • Completed visa application form 

  • Proof of sufficient financial 

  • Health insurance (minimum coverage of €30,000).

  • Recent passport-sized photographs.

Can International Students Bring Dependents to Hungary?

Yes, international students can bring dependents to Hungary. Here is what is expected:

Eligibility for Dependents (spouses and children):  The main applicant (the student) must hold a valid student visa or residence permit.

Visa Requirements for Dependents: Dependents must apply for a visa or residence permit. Each dependent must submit a separate application and the required documentation.

Required Documents for Dependents

  1. Completed visa application form for each dependent.

  2. Valid passport for each dependent.

  3. Proof of relationship 

  4. Proof of accommodation 

  5. Proof of sufficient financial means

  6. Health insurance

  • Application fee: 30-150 EUR
  • Tuition: 1500-4000 EUR per semester ($2000-USD 8000/year)
  • Cost of Living in Budapest, Hungary: 500 EUR
  • Cost of Living in Pecs, Hungary: 400 EUR
